Each year we have a service to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Elizabeth Gaskell in September 1810. There was a short Service and a laying of flowers on the Gaskell grave and on that of Joan Leach, founder of the Gaskell Society before a Service in the Chapel.
Francis Elliot-Wright led an inspiring service which was interspersed with some readings by members of the Gaskell Society on the topic of “Friendship”. We were delighted to welcome Nancy Weyant, a Life Member of the Gaskell Society, who had come over from the USA and gave one of the readings as well as laying flowers on the grave.
