Saturdays 10.45am-12.30pm

Saturday Chatterday: 1st Saturday of the month

‘Is it good to pick and mix beliefs’? What is ‘sacred’? Can people change? How do religion and science interact? These are just some of the questions we’ve discussed in our monthly discussion group. It’s always fascinating, friendly and respectful. No need for us to agree, we really enjoy hearing a wide range of views and we always leave with something new to think about.

The Brook Street Bible Study: 2nd Saturday of the month

A gentle and guided look at what the Bible says, or what we think it says, or maybe what it doesn’t say! In these sessions we take the Bible seriously but we don’t always take it literally. As a Unitarian & Free Christian chapel we are happy to look beyond the dogmas of mainstream Christianity and to ask new questions of what  scripture might say.  We will take into account a range of views, including recent biblical scholarship, scientific  perspectives and some key insights from the Unitarian & Free Christian tradition.  Different points of view are welcome and expected, after all, we are seeking faith with freedom, reason and tolerance! You don’t have to be a member of the chapel, just be ready for a relaxed, friendly and respectful session.

Unitarian Roots: 3rd Saturday of the month

As a chapel, we are making a conscious effort to reconnect with our roots in the Unitarian & Free Christian tradition. To this end, we have monthly talks on the key people, events and ideas in Unitarian & Free Christian history.

We think we have a great tradition and the more we find out about it, the more proud we are to be Unitarians and Free Christians. In fact, we are discovering that Unitarian and Free Christian attitudes regarding Jesus, religious liberty, freedom, reason and tolerance are ideas whose time has come. We really do believe that within our tradition are ideas and principles with ready application to the present and the future.

Hymn practice, sing along and discussion: 4th Saturday of the month (from February 2026)

Do you like to sing? Would you like to help us learn new hymns or suggest new hymns we might like to try? Unitarian & Free Christian hymns feature many familiar hymns but quite often the words are changed. Learning or practising Unitarian & Free Christian hymns is a great way to learn more about our tradition and about the ideas that have inspired us along the way.  So , join us for a sing and a chat from 10.45 to 12.30 on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Fifth Saturdays

Every now and then there are five Saturdays in  the month. Unfortunately, we don’t have an activity for 5th Sunday.

Sundays

Worship & Fellowship.

Every week at 11am.

Sunday worship is our core activity and the highlight of our week.  Services last about an hour, are easy to follow and are suitable for everyone.  From Lent 2026 we will be holding a 6pm service as well. Please find out more about our worship here.

Tuesdays

Coffee Morning

Every week at 10.15

Did you know, the Brook Street Coffee Morning has been going since the sixties? Join us in the hall for a cup of tea or coffee, biscuits and friendly chat. All welcome.

Wednesdays

Friendship Group

First Wednesday of each month 2pm (with exceptions, see below)

The ‘Friendship Group’ meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 2pm between February and June and between September and December.

It is open to everyone and our meetings are generally well attended by members, guests and friends. You don’t have to attend services to come to the Friendship Group, although, of course, you will be very welcome to do so!

We enjoy a variety of speakers and occasionally games afternoons. Something for all ages and tastes.

We have supported a variety of charities in the past, and intend to continue to do so, probably giving preference to locally based ones.

We enjoy an interesting year with various speakers, ranging from Holistic therapies, ‘the history of hats’, talks on local history, makeup demonstrations and ‘flog it, learn about antiques‘. We usually have an afternoon tea at Booths in June and a Christmas lunch in December.  We are always joined by a number of friends who are most welcome

As you would expect, friendship and friendships are the most important aspect of our group. Not only do we enjoy working together but we keep in contact with those who are no longer able to attend. We offer a warm welcome to everyone and believe in making each stranger a friend!

Chronic Pain & Illness Circle

Second Wednesday of each month 2pm

Are you living with chronic pain or illness? Are you tired of pretending everything’s OK? So many people live with chronic pain or illness and yet it can be hard to talk about. People ask us how we are and we say that we’re fine because we don’t want to be known as the person who’s always moaning.

The Chronic Pain & Illness Circle meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 2pm to 3.30pm. It’s an opportunity to share how you’re really feeling in a confidential and sympathetic setting, with people who know what it’s like.

We don’t pretend we can cure you but we can certainly help. Our participants regularly express how much better they feel for being able to share this time with others who are going through something similar.

We take it in turns to hold a stone (representing our burdens) as we tell the rest of the group how we have been for the past month. We then place our burden (the stone) down and the group sits in prayerful or meditative silence for a minute.  We end the circle time by each lighting two candles. The first is a selfish wish – something just for us. The second is a wish for someone else that we know.  We end the session by joining hands and ‘making our wishes come true’ by blowing out all the candles together.

In between our monthly sessions, the stones (burdens) sit on the communion table in the chapel to remind us that ours is a faith community in which burdens are layed down and shared.

Not all our participants are Sunday attenders, though some have become attenders through the group. It is open to anyone in our community, regardless of faith or affiliation.

The Brook Street Bevvy

Third Wednesday of each month 7.45pm

Starting on February 18th 2026 and then on the third Wednesday of each month, we’re going to the pub! We’re not sure which one yet, we’re still listening to suggestions, but all the details will be posted on here, on our social media accounts and in the posters outside the chapel. Come and have a bevvy with us!

Brook Street and Beyond

Unitarian & Free Christian Online Bible Study

Every Wednesday from 6pm-7pm. (from February 2026)

This online Bible study will run parallel with the in person Bible Study, offering more regular Bible study and discussion and an opportunity for those near and far to take part. Gently guided from a Unitarian & Free Christian perspective but with room for sharing varied opinions and ideas.  This activity is scheduled to start during Easter 2026. More details including how to join will be posted nearer the time.

Thursdays

Northwich Coffee Morning

2nd Thursday of each month 10.30am

Most of our members live in Knutsford but quite a few live further afield, especially in Northwich and Winsford and beyond.

On the second Thursday of each month we meet at the Penny Black in Northwich town centre for drinks and friendly chat. It’s always a lovely occasion. Please do come and join us!
